Monday, Sep. 6 Berkeley: Scream Machines – The Science of Roller Coasters
A head-spinning, stomach-churning exhibition for thrill-seekers of all ages. Interactive exhibits, artifacts and images invite visitors to explore the physics of roller coasters and the physiology and psychology of thrill-seeking. Lawrence Hall of Science on the UC Berkeley campus, through Jan. 2, 2011.
Tuesday, Sep. 7 La Jolla: Limelight: The Story of Charlie Chaplin
La Jolla Playhouse’s world premier musical and captivating close-up on the legendary actor who changed motion pictures forever. Co-written by Thomas Meehan, the multiple Tony Award-winning playwright of The Producers, Annie and Hairspray. Mandell Weiss Theater, Sep. 7–Oct. 17.
Wednesday, Sep. 8 Monterey: Cherry’s Jubilee
Dubbed the biggest “oldies” party of the year, the 18th annual Cherry’s Jubilee is a family motorsport festival that takes place in many areas of the Monterey Peninsula as well as Mazda Laguna Seca Recreation Area and Raceway. There’ll be hot rods, classic cars, children’s activities, sports bar & food court. Sep. 8-12, 2010.
Thursday, Sep. 9 Banning: Stage Coach Days
Reenact days of the Historical Old West at this 4-day celebration. There will be Wild West shootout shows, rodeo events, barrel racing, musical & dance performances, food & craft booths, petting zoo, carnival and parade. Dysart Park, Sep. 9-12.
Friday, Sep. 10 Lake Tahoe: Autumn Food and Wine Festival
Three full days of food, wine and festivals, grape stomp, wine walks, seminars, cooking demonstrations, culinary competitions, mountain chef cook off, the Tahoe Plein Air art show, live music, kids activities, and more! The Village at Northstar, Sep. 10-12.
Saturday, Sep. 11 San Francisco: Ghirardelli Square Chocolate Festival
Indulge in chocolate delicacies, sip wine and enjoy chocolate inspired family activities. Proceeds benefit Project Open Hand. Tickets must be purchased to taste chocolate; $20 gets you 15 samples. Ghirardelli Square, Sep. 11-12.
Sunday, Sep. 12 Chico: Taste of Chico
The 25th Annual Taste of Chico held in downtown Chico from 12pm-4pm. Features more than 125 participating restaurants, beverage vendors, wineries and breweries - plus an Open Air Art Gallery and shopping. Four main stages feature continuous, live music.
