Kardboard Kayak Race, Santa Barbara
The challenge is on! It’s time to channel your inner MacGyver and build a seaworthy vessel from two sheets of cardboard and a roll of tape. Those are your building materials when you participate in the Kardboard Kayak Race on Saturday, July 13 in Santa Barbara. Teams of up to four people will have one hour to construct a kayak with just three tools – a yardstick, utility knife and marker. Then it’s a race of the paddles in the water to test the stability and speed of your jury rigged design. Will it stay afloat or will it snap under pressure like a rusty, old paper clip? Prizes will be awarded in two separate heats: the Family Fun Heat (family groups, 14 years old or younger) and Paddling Pros Heat (adult and/or “skilled” competitors).
