Free Museum Day – Discover the Arts in California

Yankee Driver by Thomas Hart Benton at The Huntington (huntington.org)

Anyone looking to save money on museum entrance fees needs to know about Free Museum Day. It’s an admission-free day offered at hundreds of museums across the country. Just by knowing which day of the week is free at your chosen museum, you can enjoy art and culture without having to spend a dime. For instance, The Huntington in Los Angeles is free the first Thursday of each month. The Exploratorium in San Francisco is free the first Wednesday of each month and The San Diego Museum of Art is free the third Tuesday of each month. With a little planning, you could visit a different museum almost every day – free of charge.

Visit freemuseumday.org to see when admission fees are waived at museums in Los Angeles, San Diego and the San Francisco Bay Area. While some museums’ free days are offered to the general public, some require you to live locally or within a particular zip code. Many museums, however, never charge an entrance fee, no matter which day you choose to visit.
