Beverly Hills: Lucille Ball Items Going Up For Auction

Fans of the legendary Lucille Ball may want to make a beeline for Beverly Hills. Heritage Auctions has announced the July 17 sale of rare, personal items once belonging to the beloved comedienne.

A large selection of artwork, silverware, glassware and trinkets will be offered, but most notable are the items of a more personal nature. Love letters between Ball and her second husband of 28 years, Gary Morton will be up for bid along with an address book containing listings of famous celebrities including Dean Martin, Jack Benny, Steve Allen and Ethel Merman. Even Ball’s 1984 Rolls Royce is up for auction – opening bid is $25,000.

Heritage Auction Galleries is the world’s third largest auction house and has annual sales of more than $600 million and over 500,000 registered online bidder members.

  1. I'm as fascinated by celebrity as the next person but it always seems a little sad in a way when someone's personal possessions are being sold. I think I'm probably way too sentimental!

  4. Interesting take on the theme. Lucille Ball was so funny. I kind of agree with angelcel. It seems a little mean-spirited to put up for auction the love letters between her husband and his former wife.

  9. I think it's a shame the way these Lucille Ball items are being dealt with. I mean, you can't put a monetary value on such a legendary figure such as Lucille Ball. Perhaps the best avenue for these items so that the whole public could enjoy would of course be a museum. It's a shame that when legendary people die they perhaps can't imagine the way their personal effects will be treated and that is the shame of it all!
