Escondido: Butterfly Jungle - All A-Flutter

Happening now through April 18th at the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park is the kaleidoscopic Butterfly Jungle. Immerse yourself in the tropical exhibit as thousands of brilliantly-colored butterflies float around you. This year’s stars are the heliconids, known to you and me as the longwing butterflies. Hailing from Central and South America, they display a dramatic coloration that warns “danger” to predators who might otherwise eat them.

An array of displays, activities and daily keeper talks will educate you on these winged critters. There’s even a Butterfly I.D. Guide available to download.

The Wild Animal Park is located in the San Pasqual Valley near Escondido, about an hour’s drive north of downtown San Diego. There’s more here than just butterflies, though. The park covers 1,800 acres and is a wildlife sanctuary to 3,500 animals representing more than 400 species.

One Day Admission: $37 ages 12+, $27 ages 3-11. Ticket price includes admission, Journey into Africa Tour, Conservation Carousel ride, all exhibits and shows. Parking for non-members is $9 per vehicle. Currently open 9:00am – 7:00pm. Please check with the park directly as these times change frequently.
